Student Placements And Work Experience
We do provide placements for 18 years old and over but this is dependent on a number of factors including
- Experience & maturity of student
- Time of year
- Couse being studied (if relevant)
- Preferred age range (for teaching practice)
- RHS Staffing levels
In order to be equitable, no more than 2 students from any single establishment will be offered places at the same time.
Where possible all student teachers (GTP, PGCE,Schools Direct) will be given priority for placements.
Students studying for TA courses, CACHE diploma, GNVQ III or BTEC qualification will be considered in their second year of training as their special interest placement.
Anyone wishing to apply for a placement should write to the Placement Coordinator giving details of their course, preferred dates, preferred age range, prior experience etc.Students considered for a placement will be invited to attend RHS for a pre-placement visit to ensure that they have a good understanding of the demands of this setting.
During the visit they will have a brief tour of the school, and explanation of the children’s needs, and the approaches used by staff.
If there are concerns about the suitability of the placement either from the student or the RHS representative, we will liaise with the applicant's tutor (where applicable) to discuss the matter.
The student will be given an information pack including the following:
- H &S Policy
- Behaviour Support Policy
- Autism handout
- Information regarding the daily timetable, breaks etc, classroom protocol, expectations of student, support from RHS staff
- Key Makaton signs/symbols
