We are thrilled to introduce you to Bernard who is being sponsored by the Friends of Russet House School through Soft Power Education - some of you will remember Emily Collins, who is currently working in Uganda as an SEN Project Officer for the same organisation.
Bernard is 11 years old with learning difficulties who joined the residential unit in 2013. Bernard comes from a two parent family in a local village called Buwenda, within the Jinja District, Uganda. The family have multiple challenges including Bernard’s father having HIV. Bernard also has 3 other siblings who all have delayed developmental milestones but who with specialist input and have now been integrated into a mainstream primary school.
The Friends are paying £15 a month to cover Bernard's food, accommodation and education at Bells House residential facility where he receives 24/7 care. Soft Power Education will send us updates on Bernard's progress throughout the year, so we will keep you informed.
Two of our staff are also visiting Uganda over the Easter Holidays, so will meet Bernard in person !
